Le 30 mars 2022

While the sagging of the skin due to aging affects everyone and is inevitable, this phenomenon is not visible in the same way in all people.

Genetics and lifestyles have different consequences on the skin depending on the individual.

The causes of sagging skin with aging

The older we get, the more the skin loses its tone. This phenomenon appears from the age of 30 or 40. The cause is the slower renewal of skin cells.

Dead skin cells accumulate and contribute to thickening the skin. Collagen fibers, an essential protein in the constitution of support tissues deteriorate over time and no longer properly fulfill their role of promoting the resistance of body tissues, including the skin.

Risk factors for sagging skin

-Genetics

Each individual has different genetics which, in some people causes skin aging more rapidly than in others. This predisposition is of course inevitable. For women, the menopause which leads to a hormonal decline, predisposes to sagging skin.

-The sun

The sun is the main factor in skin aging. Prolonged exposure to UV rays has consequences on the skin including contributing to a premature reduction in the production of melanin, collagen and elastin which give tonicity to the skin. They also accelerate the drying out and natural dehydration of the skin which leads to sagging skin.

-Tobacco

Tobacco contributes to the destruction of skin fibers that ensure its elasticity and therefore its maintenance and causes the appearance of wrinkles.

-Diet

A diet low in antioxidants and essential fatty acids is also the cause of premature aging of the skin and its sagging.

How to improve the appearance of the skin ?

-Protect yourself from the sun

The application of an adequate sun protection is essential to avoid the acceleration of the premature aging process of the skin.

-Moisturize your skin

The older we get, the more the cells that allow the skin to be hydrated and keep its elasticity degenerate. Correctly and regularly moisturizing the skin with adapted and nourishing creams based on vitamins C and E is therefore important and this gesture has a preventive effect on the sagging of the skin. Drinking enough water during the day (at least 1.5 liters) also allows the body and consequently the skin to be well hydrated.

-Stop smoking

The negative effects of smoking on the skin disappear quickly after you stop. The skin quickly becomes more elastic and therefore less slack.

-The importance of nutrients and diet

To avoid premature sagging of the skin, it is necessary to ensure that you do not lack essential nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A, silicon, essential amino acids or magnesium which promote the production of collagen. Secondly, limiting the consumption of fast sugars also contributes to maintaining skin elasticity. These sugars are found in grilled meat, in overcooked foods and especially in industrial food containing proteins or milk powders.

-Plastic surgery

You can also opt for facelift which is a plastic intervention that allows you to get rid of facial wrinkles and sagging skin for a youthful appearance.
