Rhinoplasty : pain ? how long to deflate ?

Le 1 avril 2022

Rhinoplasty which is also known as nose job surgery is a plastic and aesthetic surgery of the nose. It consists of the reconstruction of a damaged nose or the correction of an unsightly nose.

There are two main types of rhinoplasty. On the one hand, closed rhinoplasty (the most used), this operation allows the correction of the back and the tip of the nose or the realignment of the nasal septum through incisions inside the nose. Post-operative scars are therefore concealed and the procedure causes little edema. On the other hand, open rhinoplasty is used for major changes to the tip of the nose or for a secondary rhinoplasty. This surgical procedure leaves an almost invisible scar under the nose between the nostrils.

Evolution after rhinoplasty : pain, oedema…

The evolution of a rhinoplasty takes place over a maximum of 1 year depending on the surgical method used by the surgeon. In the case of a closed rhinoplasty, there is little post-operative swelling and the stitches made during the operation are reabsorbed by themselves after approximately 10 days. The patient obtains a definitive result after about 3 to 6 months. Open rhinoplasty, on the other hand, causes swelling of the tip of the nose up to 2 months after the operation. To obtain a true comparison between before and after nose job surgery, you will have to wait between 6 and 12 months.

After a rhinoplasty : postoperative pain ?

Rhinoplasty is an operation which is not very painful and does not require a lot of post-operative care.

After a rhinoplasty, pain and other complications are rare. The surgeon prescribes drops of water and oil to be instilled in each nostril to promote proper healing and limit the risk of complications. Sometimes, the patient may have difficulty in breathing because of swelling of the nasal mucosa, but these effects are temporary. The patient can return to work after about 5 days.
