Men and plastic surgery

Le 17 mai 2023

Plastic surgery is being more and more common all over the world and contrary to popular belief, the increase is even more significant among men and social networks also influence these gentlemen.

According to the latest global survey of ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery), published last January, not only is cosmetic surgery on the rise worldwide (the total number of surgical and non-surgical procedures has increased by 19.3%), but this increase is more and more evident among men.

Today 14% of the interventions concern men

Men who are taking care of their bodies is not so new. But, this survey shows a new trend : in addition to physical maintenance, skin care and hair removal, men are increasingly opting for plastic surgery to improve certain details of their face or reshape a part of their body.

Thus, among the most commonly performed procedures on men are liposuction, gynecomastia surgery and abdominoplasty. Face and head procedures also increased by 14.8%, with eyelid surgery being the most popular intervention for men.

Botulinum toxin also remains the most common non surgical procedure for both men and women and in all age groups.

The influence of social networks

According to experts, social networks would not be foreign to this increase.

Like young women who want to look like female models on the networks, the perfect male bodies and faces that adorn the web seem to have the same effect on men. They are increasingly aiming at what is called « body contouring » to achieve the new ideals : thin nose, flat abdomen, square jaw, rounded buttocks and especially a muscular chest … without going to the gym.
