How long should I not work after plastic surgery ?

Those who are considering cosmetic surgery must take into account the necessary recovery time after the procedure.

They should be aware that they will not be able to go to work for a certain period of time varying from a few days to a few weeks depending on the procedure.

Recovery times vary according to the operation and the patient’s professional activity

Resumption of work is only possible when the first phase of healing is complete, if necessary after the removal of the sutures. During this period, it is important to rest and avoid sudden movements. If the patient has a physical job (other than office work), the downtime will be longer. Here are some examples of recovery times depending on the plastic intervention :

-Breast augmentation with implants / Breast reduction / Breast lift : between 8 and 15 days depending on the patient’s professional activity.

-Liposuction : approximately 10 days depending on the areas treated through liposuction.

-Abdominoplasty : between 15 and 20 days. The time off work is longer especially in the case of correction of a distension of the rectus muscles. It is important to remain at rest to avoid a delay in healing or postoperative adhesions. The resumption of a more intense physical activity is only possible after two months with the consent of the surgeon.

-Rhinoplasty : social eviction lasts 8 days until the cast is removed.

-Cervico facial lift : the social eviction lasts between 10 and 20 days. At the end of this period, the swelling and bruising are reabsorbed.

-Eyelids (blepharoplasty) : 10 to 15 days.

Why is it important to observe the recommended rest period ?

It is essential to scrupulously observe the resting time prescribed by your surgeon especially since it conditions the result of the plastic surgery. Indeed, the tissues must not be solicited after the operation at the risk of incomplete or problematic healing (hypertrophic scars for example).

Resumption of professional activity and sports

Even after a properly observed recovery period, the tissues remain fragile. This is why it is recommended to wait before resuming a more or less intense physical activity (individual or team sports, daily exercise, carrying heavy loads).
