Liposuction : What about the recovery period ?

Le 7 décembre 2021

Liposuction is a common plastic surgery and it has some postoperative effects that you must know :

The convalescence period

At the clinic

There is no drainage.

Small dressings are made over the liposuction holes, then a compression garment is worn as soon as the operation is over.

Pain is relieved with simple painkillers prescribed by your surgeon after the intervention.

At home

The panty must be kept on day and night for 6 weeks.

It is essential to walk regularly several times a day to avoid the risk of phlebitis.

When the sutures are not absorbable, they are removed between 1 and 2 weeks after the operation. But, sometimes absorbable sutures are used and these ones do not need to be removed.

The first shower is allowed two days after your liposuction.

There is always some swelling of the aspirated areas. Of variable importance, it can be asymmetrical. It is at its worst around the 7th day and lasts for about 3 months. This explains why the final result can not be appreciated before 3 months.

Bruises are often asymmetrical. They persist for a few weeks, and at least 15 to 21 days.

Pain in the aspirated areas is frequent. It is well relieved by simple analgesic treatments. It is rare that these pains persist for several weeks.

The patient can resume his professional activities after about 2 weeks, the surgeon will indicate him the period according to his case.

Sports activities are stopped for about 3 months.

The swelling usually disappears completely after 3 months. The final result is therefore obtained after 3 months as a general rule.

The scars fade progressively. Their final appearance is not obtained before 1 year.

It is important to note that the patient must follow a healthy lifestyle such as practising a regular physical activity and consuming healthy meals at regular times of the day in addition to following all the recommendations of the surgeon.
