Facelift : Post surgery care

Le 5 novembre 2021

With time, the skin and underlying fatty tissue start to sag. Lifestyle (alcohol, smoking, sun exposure, etc.) and certain hereditary factors also contribute to this phenomenon.

Year after year, repeated contractions of the face and neck muscles deepen existing folds and new wrinkles appear.

The most typical wrinkles are those caused by frowning, deepening of the mouth and nose folds and the folds running from the mouth to the jaw. A face and neck lift procedure can correct this.

Facial treatment and care after the facelift

After the facelift, a bandage will be placed to prevent post-operative swelling. Drains will also be placed to catch excess blood and fluid from the wound.

Your face will remain bruised and swollen for several weeks. For this reason, we recommend that you do not have any social or professional contact for the first ten days after your facelift. Most of the time, these effects are no longer noticeable after 2 weeks.

Precautions to take after your facelift

You will be more vulnerable to sunburn during the first few months after your facelift. It is therefore very important to protect yourself from UV rays by applying sunscreen regularly. Your scars will heal better and be less visible.

Swimming, bathing and sauna should also be avoided for at least six weeks after your facelift.

Facelift surgery corrects sagging skin, tightens facial muscles and improves facial contour.

First, it is important to choose a qualified and experienced surgeon.

Second, you should tell your surgeon everything about your health : medical history, the medications you are taking, smoking, alcohol…

Finally, you should follow all your surgeon’s instructions before and after the intervention.

It is especially important to stop smoking 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after the facelift procedure. Patients who have not stopped smoking are more likely to experience certain healing problems such as more visible scars.
