Following liposuction, it is not uncommon to see swelling in the treated area. This phenomenon is very common and normal. Here is what you need to know to ensure that the post-operative period runs smoothly.<\/p>\n

What is liposuction ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Liposuction is an intervention that consists of removing excess fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. The surgeon sucks out the fat cells using fine cannulas inserted under the skin through very fine incisions.<\/p>\n

Liposuction is used to treat areas of the body where fatty deposits are frequent and difficult to remove. For women, it is particularly effective on the abdomen, hips, saddlebags, inner thighs and knees, calves, ankles or neck. For men, it can be used to treat the abdomen, love handles, chest or double chin.<\/p>\n

What is edema ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Edema refers to the appearance of liquid swelling of tissues. It is very common in the aftermath of cosmetic surgery and in particular liposuction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Why does edema appear after liposuction ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which fine cannulas are inserted under the skin to remove excess fat. The cannulas cause temporary trauma to the tissues which results in a large amount of lymph infiltration causing swelling.<\/p>\n

How to eliminate swelling after liposuction ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After liposuction, the surgeon advises wearing a support garment (panty, girdle) for 4 weeks to compress the tissues and reduce postoperative edema.<\/p>\n

To accelerate the regression of edema, he may prescribe<\/p>\n

Physical therapy sessions with lymphatic drainage\u00a0:<\/h3>\n

These drainage and massage sessions can be initiated in the first few days after liposuction and allow for a shorter convalescence and improved comfort.<\/p>\n
